Local and international celebs congratulate Michelle Yeoh on her historical Oscars win

KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 — Following Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh’s historic win at the 95th Academy Awards today, celebrities both local and international, shared their congratulatory messages online.

Famous Hong-Kong filmmaker and actor Stephen Chow took to his Instagram story to congratulate the 60-year-old actress by posting a screenshot from her Oscars’ speech along with ‘Congratulations’.

Actor and producer Daniel Wu shared a clip of him and his daughter watching and celebrating the Best Actress announcement.

"All I have to say is the most important thing to me about tonight’s that my daughter saw this. Thanks for the shoutout Michelle Yeoh. Tonight was huge!” he said, while also congratulating actor Ke Huy Quan for his win.

Taiwanese singer Vanness Wu shared screenshots of Yeoh and the whole Everything Everywhere All at Once’s team win at the Oscars on his Instagram page.

"Filled with many emotions. Asian pride. Dreams are there for a reason. So DREAM BIG! Massive Congratulations,” he wrote in the captions.

Local veteran hairstylist, Winnie Loo shared on Instagram a heartfelt message and photos taken during Yeoh’s pageant years where she won the Miss World Malaysia title in 1983.

"I am so proud of her, especially since I have known her from her days of doing hair at A Cut Above and her winning as Miss Malaysia in 1983 when I was a sponsor and judge for the pageant.

"Today, she proves it once again that she is simply AMAZING, CONVINCING and destined.

"Congratulations, TS Michelle, we in Malaysia can’t wait to celebrate your victory when you come back with your trophy. Bravo,” she wrote in the caption.

Aside from that, Yeoh who just shared a photo of her with the iconic Academy Awards trophy alongside her partner, Datuk Seri Jean Todt on her Instagram, was also swarmed with congratulatory messages from prominent figures in the comment section.

This included comments from DC Universe’s head honcho and filmmaker James Gunn, Pakistani education activist, Malala Yousafzai, famous TVB actress Gigi Lai as well as stand-up comedian Ken Jeong.

Fellow Malaysians celebrities were also seen celebrating the Ipoh-born actress in the comment section including songbird, Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, models Amber Chia and Francisca Luhong as well as actors Hairul Azreen and Diana Danielle.

Other local celebrities who have taken to their social media to congratulate Yeoh included actress Sharifah Amani and singer and composer, Michael Wong.

Yeoh made history after becoming the first Malaysian and the first Asian woman to win Best Actress at the 95th Oscars which took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
