KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 — Here's news to rock fans of music icon Wu Bai.
The celebrated Taiwanese performer will be taking the stage with his band, China Blue Rock at Resorts World Genting on May 20.
Dubbed the ‘King of Chinese Rock’, Wu is recognised in the Asian music industry for his ability to evoke positive emotions in his audience through heartfelt lyrics. His songs have consistently topped music charts throughout the years.
Fans can look forward to a mammoth concert featuring a slew of his timeless hits from the 1990s.
Hailing from Chiayi County, Wu debuted with two songs on the Dust of Angels soundtrack in 1992. This was followed by live performances at pubs throughout Taiwan.
As his fan base increased, Wu was able to secure a deal with Rock Records and his second album, Wanderer's Love Song was released in 1994. More than 600,000 copies were sold in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
China Blue Rock, which features Dean Zavolta on drums, Yu Ta-hao on keyboards and Chu Chien Hui on bass, has often been credited for reinventing Taiwanese rock.
In 1996, Wu and his band performed their live concert for the first time in Hong Kong. The performance was a success, further propelling them to popularity. The band later released their critically acclaimed album, The End of Love.
Wu personally writes all of the songs for his albums, in addition to penning tracks for A-list stars such as Andy Lau, Emil Chau, Karen Mok, Tracy Su and Vivian Hsu.
An ever-versatile artist, Wu has also established a name for himself in the acting industry.
He had a major role in Tsui Hark's crime and action thriller, Time and Tide in 2000 and a minor role in 1998 comedy drama The Personals, which received positive box office sales and reviews. Wu contributed two songs to the soundtrack of the film.
