Film on Anwar Ibrahim in the works, expected to hit screens early next year

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 — The story of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will hit the silver screen soon, with actor Farid Kamil playing the politician.

The joint Indonesian-Malaysian production titled Jalan Masih Panjang is directed by Viva Westi and also stars Indonesian actress Acha Septriasa, who will play the role of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The news came to light after Farid shared a post about the movie on his social media.

Pakatan Harapan candidate for Kangar Amin Ahmad also shared that talks to shoot the movie began as early as 2018 at the suggestion of Anwar’s office.

"Some wanted it to be a documentary while others wanted it to be a film,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

mStar reported that the movie was at its final stages of shooting.

Set between 1993 and 1998, the movie is expected to be screened early next year.
