Malaysia’s Asic, Indonesia’s PT DKB to build green tech shipyard in Batam

JAKARTA, Aug 29 — Asic Offshore & Marine Sdn Bhd (Asic) is set to build the first green technology shipyard in Batam, Indonesia, with an estimated gross development value of RM2 billion.

The engineering, onshore and offshore repair company said the project will be carried out in collaboration with PT Dok dan Perkapalan Kodja Bahari (PT DKB), a shipyard company based in Jakarta.

The company said a land concessionaire arrangement will be provided to Asic for the build, operate, and transfer project, adding that the Batam green technology shipyard would be jointly operated by Asic and PT DKB.

Currently, Asic and its Indonesian company, PT Asic Energi Nusantara have an outstanding order book that will sustain their earnings visibility for the next two years via the two-floating docks, newly built barges and tugboats projects.

In a statement, Asic group managing director Jazli Rahimi said its projects are aligned with the pillars of Malaysia Madani, while creating over 1,000 jobs for both Malaysians and Indonesians.

It also provides Malaysian vendors with export opportunities worth over RM250 million, as well as investment opportunities in the projects and the development in the surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, during his visit to PT DKB today, Malaysia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin said Asic and PT DKB’s partnership has strengthened both countries’ bilateral ties.

He added that the Malaysian government is encouraging direct investments abroad via Malaysian banks and private investors to ensure the successful establishment of the Malaysian Brand in the global market. — Bernama
