Bursa Malaysia stays higher at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 ― The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stayed higher at mid-morning, driven by buying interest in the financial services and healthcare sector.

At 11am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.92 points to 1,444.77 from 1,441.85 at yesterday’s close.

The key index opened 0.64 of-a-point higher at 1,442.49.

There were 374 gainers and 251 losers, while 355 counters were unchanged, 1,296 untraded and 26 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.29 billion units worth RM420.12 million.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank, Public Bank and CIMB added two sen each to RM8.92, RM4.11 and RM5.48, respectively, Tenaga Nasional was flat at RM9.56, while Petronas Chemicals lost two sen to RM6.83.

Of the actives, Classita, KGW and Hong Seng were half-a-sen higher at 16.5 sen, 22.5 sen and 6.0 sen, respectively, while KNM and Sarawak Consolidated fell half-a-sen to 8.5 sen and 43 sen, respectively.

On the index board, the FBM 70 Index strengthened by 34.52 points to 13,929.48, the FBM Emas Index increased by 24.15 points to 10,617.37, the FBMT 100 Index went up 21.96 points to 10,309.97 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index advanced 10.28 points to 10,880.02.

The FBM ACE Index declined 36.87 points to 5,264.98.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index improved 63.32 points to 16,126.29, the Industrial Products and Services Index bagged 0.41 of-a-point to 166.24 and the Energy Index earned 5.41 points to 830.27, while the Plantation Index slid 8.05 points to 7,096.65. ― Bernama
