Tengku Zafrul: Johor comes up tops with 98pc foreign investment projects successfully realised

ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 22 — A total of 98 per cent of foreign investment projects in Johor have been successfully realised, especially in targeted sectors such as renewable energy sources, petrochemicals and electricity, said International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

He said that the achievement was a result of continued cooperation between the International Trade and Industry Ministry and the state government.

"The ministry will continue its commitment to work with the Johor government so that more foreign investment can be brought in, especially in the key sectors.

"Johor is not only showing positive investment momentum but also is getting stronger, especially in some targeted sectors. With the success of realising up to 98 per cent of investments, the state is an example in terms of the highest performance implementation in the country.

"Johor is also ranked first, with as much as 30 per cent coming from the state from international export value from January to April this year,” said Tengku Zafrul after chairing the 2023 Johor Industry Coordination Joint Committee meeting in Kota Iskandar here today.

Present at the meeting was Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Deputy International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong and Johor Investment, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Lee Ting Han.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz said the state government is confident that Johor will be able to maintain its position as the state with the highest foreign investment in the country for the second consecutive year.

He said Johor managed to record foreign investments of RM70.6 billion last year, the highest in Malaysia.

Onn Hafiz said the current economic trajectory shows that Johor is able to achieve a similar or higher investment figures for this year.

"The value of Johor’s international exports from January to April this year, we recorded a total of RM247.59 million, the highest in the country which places us in the top position compared to the third in the corresponding period last year,” he said.
