KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 — The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abdul Rahman, today announced the appointment of Captain Norazman Mahmud as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the CAAM effective January 1, 2023.
Norazman, who is currently CAAM’s deputy CEO (Regulatory), replaces Datuk Chester Voo, who has resigned.
The appointment was made under Section 21 of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia Act 2017 (Act 788), said Mohd Khairul Adib in a statement.
He said the appointment was made following a comprehensive assessment carried out by CAAM members regarding the most qualified candidate to lead CAAM, adding that the proposal was then submitted to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
"The transport minister expressed his confidence with the proposal by members of the authority and for CAAM to continue the positive momentum in 2023,” he said.
Norazman has over 30 years of extensive experience in the aviation industry and also served with Malaysia Airlines Bhd before joining CAAM in 2020 as the Flight Operations director.
He has been a pilot of various types of Boeing and Airbus aircraft and is the first pilot in Malaysia to be rated on the A350 aircraft.
"He has played an important role in CAAM’s comprehensive transformation process in the past two years,” said Mohd Khairul Adib. — Bernama
