Lorry driver dies after ramming parked trailer on Ipoh-Lumut highway

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — A trailer lorry driver was killed in a crash at KM47 of the Ipoh-Lumut highway after he crashed into another trailer and skidded about 100 meters before hitting a house.

According to Perak Tengah district police chief Supt Hafezul Helmi Hamzah, the incident occurred around 11.15pm yesterday on a road that was wet and dark.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz trailer lorry is believed to have lost control and crashed into the the rear off a Hino lorry trailer stopped at the roadside, which then hit a parked Toyota Vios, Hafezul said.

"The driver of the Mercedes-Benz trailer lorry suffered severe injuries and died on the location,” he said in a statement.

"A post-mortem determined the cause of death to be ‘polytrauma injury secondary to motor vehicle accident’.”

Hafezul said an investigation has been opened under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving, which is punishable by between two and 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000, or both.
