KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — There are no issues with Sarawakians registering with the central data hub, better known as Padu.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the only technicality involved its implementation via the state government machinery.
"That will be discussed today (between the Economy Ministry’s secretary-general and the Sarawak state secretary) and finalised.
"I don’t see this as affecting registrations with Padu, because as of Friday, statistics show that more than 33 per cent of Malaysians have registered.
"We anticipate that by the end of this month, we hope to be able to hit 50 per cent. So perhaps, we will get an update during the Cabinet meeting on Friday,” Fahmi told a press conference at the Parliament building here today.
He added that on March 30, when the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visits Sarawak there could be more discussions on this matter.
"The Sarawak State Government together with the Statistics Department has witnessed high registration rate from Sarawak compared to other states.
"This was witnessed at the earlier stage of registration,” he said.
It was reported that the Sarawak state government has some reservations about the implementation of Padu because it is suspicious of its true intention.
According to the state’s Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Sarawak state government wants Padu to be restructured.
Karim reportedly questioned the need for the Federal government to come up with Padu where there is already e-Kasih to register people who want financial assistance from the government.
