PM Anwar to meet captains of industry, capital market players in New York

NEW YORK, Sept 21 ― Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will continue the government’s tireless efforts to woo global investors by meeting captains of industry and capital market players on his second day in New York.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, is scheduled to participate in a roundtable discussion with Fortune 500 companies at the Harvard Club of New York City on Thursday morning.

The event is organised by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).

The prime minister will then speak at the Invest Malaysia New York event organised by Bursa Malaysia. During the two high-profile events, Anwar is expected to hold meetings with entrepreneurs and potential new investors from the United States.

For the first half of the year, Malaysia attracted a total of RM132.6 billion worth of approved investments in the services, manufacturing and primary sectors, involving 2,651 projects which are expected to create 51,853 jobs in the country.

Later in the afternoon, the premier will attend a discussion session with members of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), an independent nonpartisan thinktank and publisher that promotes an understanding of international relations and foreign policies.

Anwar, who is currently in New York to attend the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), will also meet his newly appointed Thailand counterpart Strettha Thavisin. On the same day, he will Iraq Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani. ― Bernama
