KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — Malay Mail’s Life editor and veteran journalist Audrey Edwards died yesterday. She was 48 years’ old.

Prior to Malay Mail, Edwards had spent part of her 18-year career at The Star where she first cultivated her focus on health writing, for which she won numerous awards.

Edwards was best known for her HIV/AIDS work, covering issues that ranged from infections among Orang Asli in Johor to, more recently, home-based sex work and the Malaysian-Thai border harm reduction programme.

In 2018, Edwards received the Special Red Ribbon Media Award for her long-standing contribution to HIV/AIDS journalism at the Red Ribbon Media Awards that year.

Her other honours include a Best Reporter (English) title from the National Press Club Media Awards and Ministry of Health Media Awards (Print).

Edwards had also written the commemorative book for the Malaysian AIDS Foundation and the Malaysian AIDS Council, titled Ending AIDS: Silver Linings in the First 25 Years of Malaysian AIDS Council.

Her wake is scheduled at Church of The Visitation in Seremban tomorrow from 2pm to 10pm and Sunday from 10am to 10pm.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at noon.
