JOHOR BARU, Sept 3 — MCA president Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong has refuted claims that there are party members and supporters intending to boycott Pakatan Harapan (PH) Suhaizan Kaiat in the upcoming Pulai parliamentary election on Sept 9.

He said that the party’s machinery will do its best to ensure that at least 70 per cent of Chinese voters in the parliamentary constitutency will come out and vote to ensure victory for the Unity Government representative.

"We are here today, and since last week, so what’s there to boycott. We have briefed our machinery and informed focus areas, that’s been done, we have camped and campaigned.

"I don’t know where these rumours come from. Let those who wish to gossip do so, we have no boycott at all on our end,” he told reporters after attending a meeting with Chinese community leaders at the MCA office here today, with Suhaizan in attendance.

The Ayer Hitam MP added that the Chinese community has responded very positively towards Suhaizan as he is not a stranger in the state.

"He has been the Johor state assembly Speaker under three Menteris Besar. He’s no parachute candidate, but has served for a long time here.

"What’s important is that voters elect candidates from parties that can guarantee political stability. The challenge is to ensure voters come out and cast their ballots,” he said.

The Pulai parliamentary by-election is a three-cornered fight between Suhaizan, Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Zulkifli Jaafar and Independent Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi and will take place on Sept 9, with early voting slated for Sept 5. — Bernama
