JOHOR BARU, Aug 16 — The police have completed their investigations into the gang assault case where a 15-year-old boy was allegedly attacked by a group of secondary school students in Taman Bistari Indah here last week.

Following that, the Johor Baru South district police are expected to submit the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) today.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said police have completed investigations into the case under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting,

He said investigators questioned the suspects, aged between 14 and 17, on the incident following their two-day remand yesterday.

"All seven suspects have since been released on bail,” he said in a brief reply to the media today.

Raub was commenting on the latest update on the probe into the assault case where the victim suffered head and body injuries after he was violently attacked by seven other teenagers last week.

The motive for the attack is believed to stem from jealousy as one of the suspects was unhappy as the victim had befriended his girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Johor Education, Information and Communications Committee chairman Norlizah Noh said the seven male suspects, including a foreigner, were identified as secondary school students here.

She said the youngest student involved is in Form Two, while the eldest is in Form Five.

"All six are from a secondary school in Puteri Wangsa, while another is from another secondary school in Ulu Tiram,” she said, adding that the two secondary schools will take disciplinary action on the students according to prescribed guidelines.

Last Wednesday, a group of school-going teenagers had allegedly assaulted a 15-year-old boy in a recreation area in Taman Bistari Indah here at 3pm.

In the incident, the victim suffered severe head and body injuries after he was kicked, punched and stomped on by his attackers.

The victim’s ordeal was filmed and later uploaded on Facebook. He later lodged a police report on Monday.

Shortly after the report, detectives from the Johor Baru South district police arrested all seven suspects who were believed to be involved in the assault.
