KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — After a narrow defeat in Sungai Kandis, Pakatan Harapan (PH) communications director Fahmi Fadzil expressed disappointment over the split vote in the Selangor state constituency.

The communications and digital minister appeared frustrated that the participation of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) had caused the vote split in favour of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in a few seats in the state elections.

"I have to look at the numbers first. I think there was one seat which was super close, Sungai Kandis, if I am not mistaken.

"I think this is one thing which several observers and analysts have looked at.

"I am saddened that this split allowed PN to win a seat, but I am not prepared to make more comments on that for the moment,” he told reporters at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here today.

In a three-cornered fight for Sungai Kandis, PN candidate Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad managed to wrest the seat from PH after garnering 28,926 votes, 167 more than his rival, Zawali Mughni.

Muda candidate Afriena Shaqira of Muda won 1,341 votes which is more than enough to win PH the seat that the coalition has held since 2008.

Prior to the state elections, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had repeatedly stressed that his party’s presence in the electoral showdown was not to split the vote to PH’s disadvantage.
