Telekom says Unifi Air 5G info from earlier document, offerings being updated for official launch to be announced soon

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 — Earlier news reports about Unifi Air 5G were taken from an old document, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) said today.

The telco added that its current offerings are being updated for an official launch that will be announced soon on the official Unifi website as well as its social media.

"We are aware of the information circulating about the ‘Unifi Air 5G’ product release.

"We understand the excitement however, TM wishes to clarify that the information circulated originated from an older document,” it said in a statement.

The news about the telco quietly offering unlimited 5G wireless broadband via its Uni5G Air service as early as May made headlines yesterday.

Unifi Air is a wireless broadband service aimed at users without fibre coverage.

Currently, Unifi Air 4G is offered at the cost of RM79/month for unlimited 4G with speeds of up to 20Mbps. The 4G router is offered for free on a 24-month contract.
