State polls: Pakatan-BN and Perikatan leaders accompany candidates to nomination centres

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — The nomination process for the six state election went smoothly today and several leaders in the unity government were seen accompanying their respective party candidates to the nomination centres.

Besides Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, who took time to be at a few nomination centres in Selangor, also seen accompanying the candidates was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman.

At the nomination centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Pusu in Gombak, Anwar was also accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah president and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; both making their first appearance together with federal leaders in showing support to the ruling coalition candidates in the peninsula.

Also in the procession was PH Communications director Fahmi Fadzil who is also the Minister of Communications and Digital.

They had joined in the procession to accompany the three PH-Bn candidates for the three state seats in the Gombak parliamentary constuituency.

The candidates are Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shaari (PH) for the Sungai Tua seat ; Juwairiya Zulkifli of PH (Hulu Kelang)) and BN’s Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (Gombak Setia).

As for Ahmad Zahid, he was in Kelantan and accompanied the PH/BN candidates for the state seats in the Pasir parliamentary constituency , namely Noor Hariri Mohamed Noor (BN-Umno) for Tendong seat; Rushdan Mustafa (PH-Amanah) for Pengkalan Pasir seat and Zahri Omar (BN-Umno) for Meranti seat to the nomination centre at the Pasir Vocational College.

In Negeri Sembilan, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, who is also Economy Minister, accompanied PH-PKR candidate for Sikamat, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who submitted his nomination papers at the nomination centre at Taman Coral Heights Community Hall, Sikamat.

Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who contesting the Rantau state seat, was accompanied by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is Public Works Minister, and MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong to the nomination centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Sri Sendayan.

Meanwhile, Anwar, after accompanying the PH-BN candidates for the state seats in Gombak, then went to the nomination centres in Selayang and Ampang to give support to the PH-BN candidates there.

As for the opposition parties, Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is Bersatu president, accompanied PN-Bersatu candidates Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Muhammad Hilman Idham, who are contesting the Hulu Kelang and Gombak Setia seats, respectively, as well as another candidate, Hanif Jamaluddin (PN-PAS) for the Sungai Tua seat, to the nomination centre at SMK Sungai Pusu in Gombak.

PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang was in Selangor accompanying Ab Halim Tamuri (PN-PAS) and Mohd Radzlan Jalaludin (PN-Bersatu), who are contesting in Paya Jaras and Kota Damansara, respectively, to send their nomination papers at the nomination centre at the Petaling District and Land Office. — Bernama
