PETALING JAYA, July 26 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tonight said that his coalition can capture Selangor if 90 per cent of Malay voters would go out to cast their ballots on August 12.

He said this during his speech here in Taman Medan before announcing the PN candidates for Selangor.

"What happens if the turnout of Malay voters in Selangor reaches 90 per cent? We will win the election here.

"But that doesn’t mean votes from the Chinese and Indians are not important but the Malay voters will be the key to ensure our win here,” he added.

The Pagoh MP claimed that 30 per cent of Malay voters did not vote during the 15th general election last year, which hampered PN’s hope to retain Putrajaya.

"Maybe the 30 per cent of Malay voters didn't go out and vote because they were confident that we will win.

"If 5 per cent of that 30 per cent went out, we would've won three or four seats,” he said.

The GE15 last November resulted in a hung Parliament as none of the major coalitions that vied won the simple majority of 112 out of 222 seats needed to form a government.

PN won 74 parliamentary seats while its political rival Pakatan Harapan won 82.
