KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — Caretaker Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s remarks about the Selangor Sultan during a speech in Gombak were unacceptable, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said when commenting about the charges against the PAS leader over these today.
The caretaker Selangor menteri besar said this was highlighted in the statement from the Selangor Council of the Royal Court over Sanusi’s remark about the Sultan’s decision to appoint Amirudin as his MB.
"We have to explain to the public there is no political agenda behind it.
"His remarks cross the line,” Amirudin said during an address at the Concorde Club, a forum on current issues by selected speakers initiated by senior editors in KL.
As a fellow menteri besar, Amirudin said Sanusi should be held accountable for the comment and must act more responsibly as befitting his position.
He also said outpouring sympathy for Sanusi was merely "temporary”, after the latter claimed he was being politically persecuted and silenced so his political rivals could have an advantage for the six state elections next month.
Last Friday, Datuk Emran Kadir of the Selangor Council of the Royal Court demanded Sanusi issue a public apology to the state Ruler, stating that the latter’s comments were an insult as the Sultan has the prerogative to appoint the menteri besar.
At a recent ceramah, Sanusi, who is also the Perikatan Nasional election director, remarked about the Sultan’s choice of Amirudin as the menteri besar.
In videos of his speech posted online, Sanusi drew a comparison between the Kedah and Selangor Sultans, before saying the Kedah ruler would not have appointed someone like Amirudin.
Sanusi was reportedly arrested at 3am today before being brought to the court to face charges.
Sanusi who is also Perikatan Nasional’s elections director was reported to have been arrested in a hotel here at 3am and later taken to the Sessions Court in Selayang where he was charged and claimed trial to two counts of sedition.
The two charges were in relation to Sanusi’s recent remarks to the Selangor Sultan as well as to Anwar’s assertion of a call for unity government by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
