KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will consider the proposal to station its officers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told Sinar Harian today the MACC will weigh how important the airport needs to have its personnel there.

"Its necessity will be considered, depending on the strength and number of total existing officers,” he was quoted as saying.

The idea to place MACC officers on duty at the airport was raised by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing on June 30.

The minister who alleged a "culture of corruption” among airport Immigration staff said it was time for MACC to visit KLIA to carry out investigations, while responding to accusations that he has overstepped his authority to enter the KLIA arrival hall to help a detained tourist.

On the same day, Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said an internal investigation would be carried out on the minister’s corruption allegation.

On July 4, he passed all investigations to the MACC and said the department will brook no compromise on rogue Immigration officers.

Yesterday, Azam said MACC's investigations on the allegations of corruption involving Immigration officers at KLIA are still ongoing.
