KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, who is suing PAS newcomer Tan Sri Annuar Musa for defamation, today said he would not accept any apology from the latter should it be offered over the May 13, 1969 remarks.

Only compensation will do, he added.

"I have instructed my lawyers not to accept Annuar Musa’s apology and to insist on compensation for defaming me,” he said in a statement.

Lim said Annuar’s recent allegations that the "DAP went against Islamic values” continues PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s bid to sow "lies, falsehood, fake news and hate speech” ahead of the state elections next month in Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.

"This is also the second thing that Annuar Musa did — as in his reiteration linking me to the May 13, 1969 racial riots, Annuar Musa is continuing Hadi’s example to make wild, preposterous and unsubstantiable [sic] allegations,” he said.

The former federal lawmaker asserted that the DAP has always fielded candidates from all races and religions from the very first general election in 1969 in which it took part, and after.

He highlighted that two of DAP’s Malay Muslims candidates were elected assemblymen, one of which was Ibrahim Singgeh, who was the representative for Tapah Road in Perak and who subsequently was nominated as the party’s choice for menteri besar in 1974.

He also highlighted that his son Lim Guan Eng — the current DAP chairman — went to jail to defend the honour and dignity of an underaged Malay girl in 1999, giving up his Kota Melaka parliamentary seat at that time.

"Has any PAS leader made any sacrifices for any underaged Malay girl, let alone a Malaysian girl of another race or religion?” the senior Lim asked.

The 82-year-old Lim announced his move to sue Annuar two days ago.

Annuar, a former Keterah MP as well as a former Umno man who joined PAS last month, was reported yesterday to have defended his May 1969 remarks and urged Lim to speed up his lawsuit.
