PUTRAJAYA, June 27 — Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today assured components MCA and MIC that they would be given seats to contest in the six state elections due within weeks.
Earlier today, it was reported that MCA’s participation in the state elections were uncertain.
"I would like to inform that MCA and MIC also have a place and we have given them seats to contest in the next state elections.
"MIC and MCA will be given seats in all the six states where there is a PRN, each party will be given a suitable place to contest and the chances of them winning are high,” he said during an event here today.
Zahid said the report claiming that the party was given a seat in Selangor was incorrect.
"The report of MIC being given a seat to contest is not accurate. MIC previously asked the Sentosa state assembly that (we) have a chance to win.
"However, after negotiations between PH and BN, the seat was retained by PKR. So, until now, MIC has not been promised any seat to contest in Selangor," he said.
When asked about the seat negotiations between BN and PH, Zahid said that both parties are in the final stages of finalising the distribution of seats.
"Depending on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s date, I think it will not be too long, whenever the time is right for us to finalise it, I am confident that we will finalise it on the date determined by the prime minister," he said.
Earlier today, Malaysiakini quoted Selangor MIC chief MB Raja saying that the party has still not been informed how many seats it would contest, even though MIC reportedly said it will contest the Selangor state election after being given the green light by Zahid.
