GEORGE TOWN, June 27 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has obtained consent from the Yang diPertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak to dissolve the state legislative assembly tomorrow.
Chow arrived at the Penang Governor’s official residence, Seri Mutiara, at about 7.53am today for an audience with the state governor that lasted roughly 30 minutes. He departed at 8.33am.
"I have obtained consent from the Yang diPertua Negri to sign the proclamation for the state legislative assembly to be dissolved to pave the way for the state elections,” he told reporters when met before he left Seri Mutiara.
He said he is relieved that they can now make preparations for the state elections.
The polling date will be set by the Election Commission.
Chow is also expected to hold a press conference at 2.30pm in Komtar today regarding the dissolution.
The state elections for Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor are expected to be held concurrently in August after their respective state legislative assemblies are dissolved.
Kelantan and Selangor are the first to do so.
