PETALING JAYA, June 19 — PKR leaders denied today that former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin was offered the post of the party’s ‘appointed’ deputy president.
This comes after a screenshot of a letter, dated today, and purportedly signed by PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail inviting the former Rembau MP to join PKR went viral on social media.
It stated that the former health minister was being offered the position of "deputy president by appointment” until the next party polls.
The supposed offer letter also asked Khairy to give his answer within seven days from the date of issuance.
In a brief reply to Malaysiakini, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said that "the font is wrong”.
Meanwhile, Permatang Pauh PKR Youth chief Fahmi Zainol took to Twitter to say that the letter was a hoax.
"There are all kinds of modern-day scams,” he tweeted today along with a screenshot of the alleged letter.
Last Friday, Khairy, who has been without a party since his sacking from Umno on January 27, made headlines when he attended a meeting on the country’s economic trajectory that was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is also PKR president.
This led to speculation that Khairy might be planning to join the unity government.
