Two held for trafficking cannabis using taxi, e-hailing services in Selangor

PETALING JAYA, June 9 — Police arrested two local men alleged to have been involved in trafficking four kilogrammes of cannabis using taxi, e-hailing service and public transport through two separate raids here on June 6.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the first suspect, a 41-year-old taxi driver, believed to be the transporter for Kelana Jaya area was detained at 10.10pm.

"Upon further investigation, a bag was found containing four compressed pieces of dried leaves believed to be cannabis wrapped in golden yellow and blue papers.

"An interrogation led to the arrest of the second suspect, a 29-year-old local man in Kota Damansara are, who is believed to be the mastermind of the drug ring,” he told a press conference today.

He added that investigations revealed that the two suspects would bring the drugs after receiving orders to resell them to other dealers.

"The syndicate’s modus operandi was to use e-hailing and other public services to deliver the drugs. The seized drugs are estimated to be worth RM12,455 and could supply about 4,018 addicts,” he said.

According to Fakhrudin, the first suspect had been involved in drug trafficking in the Kelana Jaya and Puchong areas for about three months, while the second suspect had been active in Kepong, Selayang and Petaling Jaya for the past two months.

The taxi driver suspect has a record of 11 crimes, six of which are drug-related. The other suspect has no previous record.

Both have been remanded for seven days until June 10 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — Bernama
