KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today dismissed the need for new political partner DAP to prove its commitment to the Malay and Islamic agenda with an apology.

The demand for an apology had been made by Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Salleh at the wing’s assembly this morning.

"That matter does not need to be raised again because they have stated this matter several times, and even in our consultation to form this government,

"That matter is not the main condition for us and they agree 100 per cent and we don't need to repeat what they have agreed to,” Zahid who is also deputy prime minister told reporters at the Umno headquarters here.

In his speech, Dr Akmal had demanded DAP apologise to Umno purportedly for its past mistakes, and to prove its sincerity to the coalition government led by PKR's Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which comprises Pakatan Harapan coponent parties and the Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Bersatu Sabah.

Addressing rumours of former Umno leaders joining rival parties, Zahid said he wished them the "best of luck”.

"There is a question that has been whispered to me about the 10 warlords from Umno that this may be the first time that they may not present themselves to AGM.

"And I was informed that they intend to join another party. I wish them the best of luck,” he said.

Zahid had invited former Umno leaders as well as those under suspension to attend the party’s annual assembly.

Prior to that, former Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said that 10 warlords from the Malay-nationalist party had formally applied to join PAS.

Last month, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takyuddin Hassan has confirmed that the former Ketereh MP has expressed his wish to join the Islamist party, right after another former Umno warlord Tan Sri Noh Omar announced that he will contest in Selangor under Perikatan Nasional ticket.
