KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Puteri Umno chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi today admitted that she needed some time to come to terms with the reality of her party's significance in the current unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In her inaugural speech addressing more than 1,000 delegates at Umno's Annual General Meeting (AGM), she urged party members to accept the current political dynamic and widen their perspective when looking at the current alignment.

"I call on all Puteri members, who are here, or who are watching at home, to broaden our perspective, or point of view regarding the unity government.

"I admit, we needed time to digest, and understand what is the wisdom of our existence, in the unity government. Is this the best for us, the struggle of the party and the people?” she said.

Nurul said that being united is an essential part to ensure political stability in the current federal administration that will help the country to prosper.

Nurul Amal then echoed Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's call to reflect on themselves, especially after the drubbing that the party suffered in the 15th general election (GE15).

"We need to reflect on ourselves and take a step back before reacting. If there is an issue, don't keep pointing fingers. Sit down to discuss and find a solution," she added.

Yesterday, Ahmad Zahid said that he has reminded party members to accept that Umno is no longer the dominant political force it once was in Malaysia.

He said that the party must be prepared to do the groundwork and capitalise on every opportunity that presents itself during the state elections.
