KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — Penang DAP Women chief Lim Siew Khim today asked what actions will be taken by the authorities against Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for using foul language in a ceramah recently.
Citing an article from Utusan Malaysia titled "Foul jokes, risk of being prisoned”, Lim asked if the police will take against Muhammad Sanusi based on Section 509 of the Penal Code as stated in the article.
"Doesn’t matter if it is a normal person or someone in a high position, I hope the authorities will take proper action,” Lim said in a press conference after lodging a police report at the Timur Laut district police station in Penang.
Section 509 refers to any person who insults the modesty of any woman by word, through sound, gesture or exhibits any object intentionally, shall be punished for a term which may extend to five years or be fined or both.
It was reported that Muhammad Sanusi uttered a word referring to a male reproductive organ during a Perikatan Nasional (PN) talk in Permatang Pauh, Penang recently.
Lim, who is the Sungai Pinang assemblyman, said that Muhammad Sanusi as a menteri besar who is in a high position, should not be using such foul language in public.
"Maybe at the time of his speech, there might be women, men, youth and children. I think it’s too much. This is an insult. I leave it to the authorities to take necessary action,” she added.
Lim also pointed out this is not a matter of women’s issues, religion or race as she said it will simply be a bad example for the public.
"Foul language has never been allowed in Parliament sessions or State Assemblies or even in schools. Such a shame for a menteri besar to use such a word in the public,” she said.
Earlier, Bukit Bendera assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid, who was accompanied Bangi member of parliament Syahredzan Johan, also lodged a report against the Kedah menteri besar at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
