KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor today claimed that Penang is under the ownership of Kedah.
The Kedah Menteri Besar said Perak and Perlis are the only states that have a border with Kedah.
"I’m waiting for confirmation from the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (Jupem) if there is a determined basis for the confirmation of Kedah’s border with other states, from what I know, Penang is Kedah’s.
"So there is no such thing as the Kedah-Penang border, our state border docks next to the island there (Balik Pulau), with Perak there may be. The Kedah-Penang border, how can it be measured? Which point of the gazette can be used?” he was quoted as saying by Malay daily Sinar Harian.
He added that there is no need to reclaim Penang as the state has never "escaped” from Kedah.
"We are not taking it back, they weren’t free (from Kedah), it’s our right,” he said.
He made his claim after signing the land and maritime boundary agreement between Kedah and Perlis at Wisma Darul Aman.
The agreement involves 44.3 kilometres for land while 5.6 kilometres for maritime (sea) or equivalent to three nautical miles.
Muhammad Sanusi said the agreement made a new history between the two states that were able to simultaneously finalise the land and sea borderline.
