KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 — DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng urged Pakatan Harapan (PH) troops to work hard in the upcoming state elections to prove former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wrong.
He also reiterated his wish that PH emerges victorious in the polls, especially in Penang.
Apart from Penang, the impending state elections will be held in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah.
"For the upcoming state elections, the Penang state government should not take things lightly. We must work hard to defeat Perikatan Nasional.
"Prove the 80 per cent support for PN that Muhyiddin said is just nonsense,” he said, referring to the Muhyiddin-led Perikatan Nasional coalition.
Lim also said that the current federal administration that consists of PH and former rival-turned-ally Barisan Nasional (BN) would maintain its grip on power despite some parties refusing to acknowledge such circumstances.
"We expect the state assemblies to be dissolved at the end of June and voting day is expected to be held at the beginning of August.
"This is the time when the people of these six states should show that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decreed on the formation of a unity government was a wise decision that allows Malaysia and its people to move forward,” he added.
Previously, Muhyiddin said that he is confident that PN can win up to 80 per cent of the votes in the upcoming state polls, especially from the Malay population.
He cited a study conducted by the coalition showing that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Gerakan and PAS were leading in terms of popularity and leadership.
