KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil today said the investigation on a data leak involving thousands of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) applicants was ongoing.

Fahmi said Higher Education Minister Mohamed Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin has already instructed UiTM to investigate the incident.

"I read in the media reports that YB Datuk Seri Khalid Nordin has asked for some info to be furnished to him.

"He wants to make sure that this method doesn’t reoccur,” he told the reporters at his ministry’s Aidilfitri open house at Angkasapuri here.

Fahmi also said the Personal Data Protection Department had directed UiTM on May 9 to file a notice of the leak and to provide further information about the incident.

Earlier that day, a Twitter user claimed that UiTM had published the MyKad numbers and emails of nearly 12,000 applicants on an unsecured link.

The university later apologised over the incident and said the link has been deactivated.
