KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — Anti-corruption investigators have sought a condominium’s surveillance footage of three cars, including two belonging to Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar whose aides were arrested last week.

According to the Malaysiakini news portal, one source said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has made three vehicles a priority for its investigation into alleged abuses involving foreign worker recruitment quotas.

"The MACC has asked for CCTV recordings from March 6 to 7, 2023, as well as on April 7 and 8, 2023, showing the three vehicles: a Mercedes-Benz, a Proton Perdana and a Mitsubishi Outlander," the person was quoted as saying.

Malaysiakini reported that the Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi vehicles were registered to Sivakumar.

Earlier today, Utusan Malaysia reported that MACC investigators had visited the home and office of a minister as part of the investigation but did not discover any related evidence.

Yesterday, Sivakumar denied he had been arrested when he went to give his statement to the MACC in Putrajaya on Sunday, and insisted he was only there as a witness.

The MACC first arrested an aide to the minister on Thursday last week, before detaining his private secretary the next day. Both have since been remanded.

The case could undermine the anti-corruption platform that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chose as a cornerstone of his administration despite incorporating politicians still combating corruption charges.

Yesterday, Anwar said it was premature to place Sivakumar on garden leave as no charges have been filed.
