KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to charge former Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man in the sessions court at Kangar, Perlis tomorrow.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki reportedly confirmed this to online news portal Free Malaysia Today.
An earlier report by Malay language daily Utusan Malaysia also said that Azlan will be charged under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 which governs the offence of filing false claims.
The legislation states that any person providing documents that are false or contains false details can be fined not less than five times the value of the defective sum or RM10,000, whichever is higher, as well as imprisonment up to 20 years.
Last month, Azlan reportedly lost his Kangar Umno division chief post which he first won in 2014 in the party’s internal polls.
Before that, he held the mentri besar post for his state from 2013 to 2022.
