He also advised the Pagoh MP to face the charges levelled against the latter with an open heart, after Muhyiddin was charged recently with corruption and money laundering.

"I am open and prepared [to be investigated] at any time. I have also been investigated before and even taken to court,” he told reporters after an Umno event in Tampoi here.

"So, if we need to face [an investigation], just go through it. I have faced it before and I wish him the best of luck,” he added, referring to Muhyiddin.

Ahmad Zahid, also the deputy prime minister, responded to Muhyiddin’s call for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to also investigate the source of political funds given to Umno and PKR.

Earlier, Muhyiddin accused Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid of trying to put him in jail because they were afraid of him.

The former prime minister challenged the MACC to also investigate the source of political funds given to PKR and Umno.

Muhyiddin had been called by the MACC to its headquarters in Putrajaya last Thursday to answer questions about his coalition’s funds used during the 15th general election (GE15).

On Friday, Muhyiddin was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on six charges, involving four offences for using a position to obtain a bribe of RM232.5 million and two offences of money laundering involving RM195 million.

However, the Perikatan Nasional chairman claimed trial to all the charges.
