KULAI, Feb 17 — Johor Perikatan Nasional (PN) Wanita today alleged that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation against former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was politically motivated.
The leader of the wing, Datuk Azlinda Abd Latif, said it planned to lodge a police report over this alleged abuse of power.
"This is a character assassination attempt to ‘kill off’ Muhyiddin who has sacrificed a lot in upholding integrity as well as being against abuse of power and kleptocracy.
"The MACC should undertake a comprehensive investigation as there have also been reports to the anti-graft agency on excesses such as luxury spending that were made by both BN and PH during the last general election (GE15),” said Azlinda during a press conference held at the Johor PN office in Taman Scientex Utama, Senai here today.
She was responding to news reports yesterday that Muhyiddin, who is also PN chairman, was questioned over claims of power abuse when he was the prime minister.
Also present were Azlinda’ deputies Zakiah Tukirin and Susan Yong as well as senior women wing members from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), PAS and Gerakan.
Azlinda, who is also a Bersatu supreme council member, also questioned on the status of police reports alleging excessive spending by Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan during the 15th general election.
The former political secretary to Muhyiddin when he was prime minister hoped for updates.
"We will continue with our struggle in upholding integrity, clean and stable values,” she said, adding that it was Johor PN Wanita’s responsibility as community leaders to voice such unjust situations in the country.
Yesterday, it was reported that Muhyiddin was questioned by the MACC over the alleged award of a government project to a relative when he was the prime minister.
The Star, citing unnamed sources, reported that the Pagoh MP, who served as Malaysia’s eighth prime minister from March 2020 to August 2021, was called to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.
It was understood that the MACC’s questioning of the 76-year-old politician was linked to the commission’s investigation involving RM300 million that was alleged to have been received by Bersatu from the Covid-19 stimulus package funds.
