KUALA LUMPUR Feb 8 — The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) said today it does not harbour any ill feelings and is still supportive of the current administration despite being left out of the newly formed Unity Government Secretariat meeting.
Its secretary-general Amir Abd Hadi said there was no official invite for Muda to attend the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Umno's headquarters in Menara Dato Onn last night.
"Just imagine, we were shocked to read about the news of the formation of the Unity Government Secretariat from the news late last night. Muda, which is a component of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, was not notified of the meeting through any letters, emails or even mobile text messages.
"Even if it was a last-minute decision, at least the organisers could have informally texted any of us,” said Amir when contacted by Malay Mail.
Amir had posted on Twitter pointing out how despite Muda being represented by the party’s logo on the meeting's backdrop, it was not invited to the unity government’s inaugural secretariat meeting.
The backdrop had listed out the logos of all the coalitions and parties who are part of the coalition government dubbed "unity government”, with PKR and Umno at the very top and Muda at the very bottom.
Amir, who is also a youth activist, said Muda took the incident very seriously as it supported Anwar and PH in the 15th general election and subsequently when the coalition government was formed.
Muda has one federal seat in the Parliament: president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman's Muar.
"For the time being, the party’s leadership will call for a meeting to address the incident,” he said.
Despite that, Amir stressed that Muda is not blaming any parties and believed that the matter stemmed from miscommunication.
He said that Muda also noticed that the party was kept out of the loop on the government’s activities since the memorandum of understanding signed in December last year.
"I will call for a meeting with our PH coalition partners to discuss on improving communications in an effort to avoid similar future incidents,” he said.
On Muda’s participation in the upcoming state elections, Amir said he was confident that the incident would not affect campaigning.
"We are positive that we can overcome any shortcomings with our coalition partners and other allied parties in the unity government,” he said, adding that there is still time to discuss matters related to the state election.
Last night, Anwar announced that the newly-formed Unity Government Secretariat has been tasked with organising the allied parties to jointly face the six state elections that must be held by this year.
The PH chairman said Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf and Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki will head the secretariat.
