KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to chair the first meeting of the "unity government” secretariat tonight.
The meeting will be held at the Umno headquarters in Menara Dato’ Onn at about 8.30pm, Berita Harian reported late last night, citing an unnamed spokesman for the secretariat.
The location is seen as significant as the last time Anwar stepped foot into the Umno building was before he was sacked from the party and from the then ruling Barisan Nasional government over two decades ago.
The "unity government” secretariat meeting was first announced by Umno president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during his party’s general assembly last month.
He also said the secretariat office will be based at Menara Dato’ Onn and will be headed by incumbent Umno Youth chief , Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
According to Berita Harian, Zahid is also expected to attend the secretariat meeting tonight as are the political party leaders of the coalitions that form the federal government, namely Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.
