PUTRAJAYA, Feb 3 — Minister of Transport Anthony Loke said he will be inspecting the full length of the MRT Putrajaya Line (MRT2) in a test run next week.
Loke said the trial run on Tuesday was part of the final phase of testing for the line that was under the regulation of Land Transport Agency (Apad).
"Next Tuesday, I will, together with Ministry of Transport personnel and the media, board a train from Putrajaya Sentral station to Kwasa Damansara.
"Please spend a few hours for the programme, it will take about an hour ride in between the station and we will have one stop in Titiwangsa station,” he told a press conference after the Chinese New Year celebration at the Transport Ministry headquarters today.
The MRT2 is the second Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Malaysia, and the third fully automated and driverless rail system in region.
The line stretches from Kwasa Damansara to Putrajaya and runs through densely populated areas such as Sri Damansara, Kepong, Batu, Jalan Ipoh, Sentul, Kampung Baru, Jalan Tun Razak, KLCC, Tun Razak Exchange, Kuchai Lama, Seri Kembangan and Cyberjaya.
Today, Loke also announced a shuttle bus service from KL Sentral to the Parliament will start for the next parliamentary meeting scheduled from February 13.
He said it will encourage parliamentary personnel, media, civil servants and MPs to use public transport and ease the congestion as well as lack of parking at Parliament.
"We are currently on a trial run by Prasarana. It is on the end stage as we need to discuss with parliamentary officials on the security issues as visitors and the media need to go to the security checkpoint before entering the Parliament,” he said.
Loke said he would use the shuttle bus when it commences, adding that KL Sentral was chosen as it is a transport hub connecting the MRT, KL Monorail, LRT and KTM Komuter.
He then hinted of major announcements regarding the rejuvenation of Subang Airport and the Digitalisation Project for the Road Transport Department next week.
