SUBANG JAYA, Jan 31 — Parti Amanah Negara’s deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said his party will consider the applications of Umno members who had been sacked or suspended lately on a case-by-case basis.

"It’s common that members went against the party’s rule whether through sabotaging, or contesting under another party during the election.

"I feel like when dealing with this, the best way is to look at it on a case-by-case basis, and we also need time to think whether we will accept their applications or not,” Salahuddin told the media.

He added Amanah understands the matter, as it had also taken disciplinary actions against its leaders in Kedah before the 15th general election due to internal sabotage.

Meanwhile, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) vice-president said that the coalition will come together to decide whether it will open its doors to Umno members.

"We will discuss it. Normally, in the presidential counsel, we will put everything on the table.

"And as for any decision reached, it will be a consensus,” said Salahuddin when asked whether PH component parties such as PKR or DAP would accept Umno members’ applications.

Yesterday, Umno leader and former deputy minister Datuk Zahidi Abidin said that he and a large number of Umno leaders are planning to leave the party for PKR, following last week’s purge.

Last Friday, Umno announced the sacking of 44 members including former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and longstanding Tanjong Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar for several offences committed such as contesting as independent candidates and helping Opposition candidates in the polls.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) lynchpin party also suspended the party rights of its former vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and its former information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan for six years, along with Datuk Maulizan Bujang and Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Sharif.
