PUTRAJAYA, Jan 17 — The South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) and the state Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) have been told to take immediate action involving the dilapidated suspension bridge used by residents to cross Sungai Belatop in Kampung Brooke Lama, Pos Brooke, Gua Musang, Kelantan.

Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a statement today that if the bridge needed repair or an upgrade, it should be done for the safety of the residents.

It was reported that more than 500 Orang Asli residents from the village were risking danger when using the 15-year-old suspension bridge to run errands including sending their children to school.

Ahmad Zahid said after an investigation was carried out, he was informed that the bridge was not the only way in and out of the area.

According to him, Jakoa had built a concrete road behind the village area which is connected to the paved road leading to Kampung Orang Asli Liak and Kuala Rengil, accessible by cars, four-wheel drive and motorcycles. — Bernama
