KOTA KINABALU, Jan 4 — The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah state government is ready to prove its majority support, amidst speculation that there are parties who are planning to topple it.
Secretary-general Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said that they have heard of the talk of a political group claiming they had more than half of the support of 79 state assemblymen, claiming it is enough to form a new government.
"The fact is, Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor has received confirmation of support from a big majority of the state assemblymen in Sabah to continue leading the state,” he said in a statement here.
"These also include the seven Pakatan Harapan state assemblymen,” he added.
Masidi said that they were ready to prove the support if and when the situation requires.
"We are ready to show that we have the support to the necessary authorities when and if needed.
"The political situation in Sabah remains stable and safe for business and investment,” he said.
There has been some talk of shifting allegiances in the state following the formation of the government at the federal level.
Some rumours claim that both the Opposition and some within the current GRS-Barisan Nasional led government were in cahoots to topple Hajiji.
In the 79-seat state assembly, GRS is represented by 29 assemblymen, Warisan 19 and Umno 17.
Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Malaysia (KDM) has three, and PAS, Parti Bangsa Malaysia, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah have one each. There is also one independent.
Pakatan Harapan, with four from DAP, two from PKR and one from Upko, is believed to now be government-friendly.
