KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 — The Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Education Department has found replacements for the six teachers from SJKC Mun Choong in Jalan Ipoh here who perished in the December 16 landslide in Batang Kali, Selangor.
Its deputy director of learning Abdul Aziz Md Hashim told Berita Harian’s TV channel, BHTV, that the six teachers have been notified of their new positions at the Chinese vernacular school.
"Just that these teachers are new teachers who have been given placements. We did not make any transfers from other schools, but these are new teachers who have been placed,” he was quoted as saying at the school’s memorial for the landslide victims yesterday.
He was also reported saying a tender for the school’s new canteen operator has been called.
The previous operator and an assistant who accompanied the school teachers and their family for a camp at the Father’s Organic Farm during the year end holidays also died in the same landslide.
Abdul Aziz said several counsellors will be based in the school to help staff and students grappling with the tragedy.
In a predawn landslide on December 16, tonnes of earth crashed down on the farm campsite.
Sixty one survived and 31 died. Eighteen of those killed were adults and 13 were children.
The body of the last victim, an 11-year-old boy, was found five days ago, after days of intense search.
