KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki has confirmed to Utusan Malaysia that the testimonies of five people have been recorded in connection with allegations that millions of ringgit were given by Perikatan Nasional (PN) to help Umno during the Sabah state election two years ago.

He confirmed that Tan Sri Annuar Musa was one of those recorded last week, and that MACC is in the process of meeting other witnesses, including PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"MACC is currently holding further investigations into the matter,” he was quoted as saying in the news report today.

Annuar, who had been Barisan Nasional secretary-general from March 2020 to January 2021 also told the Malay language daily that he had given his testimony last week, adding that he had explained the matter in full to MACC.

He also thanked MACC and said that he would continue to cooperate with it as that was his responsibility.

MACC began investigating Annuar on December 6 regarding claims that Muhyiddin, who was the prime minister at the time, had given Umno millions of ringgit to help the party during the Sabah state elections in 2020.

Annuar had also claimed in an interview with SuaraTV that was live-streamed on his Facebook page that Muhyiddin met with him in Sabah to give him "tens of millions” in ringgit during the Sabah state elections on September 16 2020.

"September 16, 2020. Go ask Muhyiddin.

"I went into his room and told him Umno has run out of money.

"He gave tens of millions in ringgit to help Umno,” he said then.

He said that this disproved claims that Muhyiddin’s party Bersatu and its coalition partner PAS was out to "kill” Umno.
