KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 — Former Perak mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu today said that the unity government formed in the state is a ‘recipe for disaster’.
Peja, as he is commonly known, had in a statement said that the cooperation confirms rumours before the 15th general election (GE15), that Umno leaders are working on a new form of alignment with Pakatan Harapan (PH), simply to stay in power.
"We also wonder where is the "No Anwar, No DAP” decision made in the Umno general assembly.
"Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) remains with the stance to be the Opposition if it is unable to form a state government with any party that is willing to accept the principles of PN’s struggle which are caring, clean and stable.
"Perak PN will not cooperate with PH in which there is DAP that is rejected by the majority of Malays or with those who are contaminated with corruption problems,” the Perak PN chairman added.
Just moments earlier, Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, gave his consent to the formation of a unity government by PH and Barisan Nasional (BN).
He also said that BN’s Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad will retain the position of Perak mentri besar.
Speaking to reporters outside Istana Kinta here, Perak Royal Comptroller Datuk Seri Anuar Zaini said that PN representatives had an audience with Sultan Nazrin but nothing came to fruition.
"Due to an understanding that has been reached, only one name has been proposed by Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional which is Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad,” he told the media.
He also said that the Sultan has decreed that Saarani be sworn in at Istana Iskadariah in Kuala Kangsar at 5:30pm today.
PH managed to garner 24 seats, while BN managed to get nine seats. PN only managed to get 26 out of the 59 seats available. Thirty seats are needed before a political coalition can form a simple majority.
In December 2020, Ahmad Faizal lost a motion of confidence vote that was tabled against him at the Perak state legislative assembly.
In GE15, the Tambun incumbent lost the seat to Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
