KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 — Aisha Adam is staying put at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Setiawangsa here hours after arriving at the polling station to cast her ballot in protest of the Election Commission’s (EC) refusal to let her vote today.

The 36-year-old who has voted in the Setiawangsa parliamentary seat in the past two general elections, claimed an EC officer told her she cannot cast her ballot as she had been registered as a postal voter.

"I'm just protesting at Pondok SPR SK Setiawangsa until they close.

"Basically, I can only report but not vote,” she told Malay Mail when contacted.

She said the EC officer told her she could make a plea to the EC director but there was nothing to be done until then.

"I will make a police report after,” she added.

Aisha had tweeted her conundrum on Twitter earlier this morning.

In a series of tweets, she said the Returning Officer told her that she had been registered as a postal voter in Australia through her phone number in 2015.

She said she had gone there to further her studies but had never applied to register as a postal voter or open a MySPR Account as postal voters are required to do.
