JOHOR BARU, Nov 9 — The Johor government will give out a 12 per cent rebate to 49,280 consumers who experienced water shortage in Pasir Gudang, recently.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the decision to offer the rebate was following a discussion between the state government and Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd, the water concession company in Johor.

"It is hoped the initiative will ease the burden of the people (consumers). I wish to once again apologise to all consumers and business sector for the difficulties they had to undergo during the water shortage period.

"Though it was due to a burst pipe, it was not expected. The state government will also ensure a more effective procedure to tackle such issues in future,” he said in his official Facebook today.

Onn Hafiz said the state government has never taken such incidents lightly and will continue to monitor issues that affect the welfare of the people.

On October 28, more than 50 areas in Pasir Gudang suffered complete water disruption due to a burst pipe at Persiaran Seri Alam while carrying out technical work at the site.

Restoration work was carried out and completed on November 4. — Bernama
