IPOH, Nov 7 — DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said Pakatan Harapan (PH) should care less on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s remarks about the coalition, as the priority now is to focus on saving the country.
Lim reiterated that the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) chairman should retire for contesting the 15th general election.
"I already said that Mahathir should not contest. So we should not focus anything on Mahathir.
"The issue right now is how to save Malaysia, not how to save Mahathir,” he told a press conference.
Lim said this when asked to comment on Dr Mahathir’s statement on Sunday, during his two-day visit to launch the Sabah chapter of his Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, which he accused his rival coalitions of having political baggage and face allegations of corruption or bribery, including PH of which he used to lead.
The former prime minister said that in comparison to Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PH, GTA is allegedly offering a clean start for Malaysia.
Lim also pointed out that the political mood in the country has changed weeks after Parliament was dissolved.
"Initially, BN was so confident of having the general election early as they believe that they could win it easily. The expected that rainy season and flood issues will reduce the voter turnouts, which eventually benefits them.
"However, in the last three weeks the political mood have changed and it is not certain that BN and Umno can surely win.
"We have 12 days before polling, I think this is right time we should create a political tsunami to drown BN and Umno,” he said.
Lim also said that the PH’s slogan "Kita Boleh” (We Can) refers to voters’ ability to have a better government, win back Putrajaya, have a good prime minister, as well as better and secured rights for the people in Sabah and Sarawak.
The 81-year-old veteran was in Ipoh to help DAP candidates M. Kulasegaran, who will be defending the Ipoh Barat parliamentary seat and M. Thulsi, who will be running for the Buntong state seat, in their campaigns.
Earlier, he visited Buntong voters at the Taman Mas GP food court here and had a short talk with the residents before leaving for Kampar to help the party’s candidates there in campaigning.
