KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Barisan Nasional (BN) has clarified that a statutory declaration (SD) allegedly signed by its Lenggong candidate Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah that went viral is fake.
Shamsul, who is also BN communications director, labelled the attempt as nefarious.
"This matter is clearly a malicious effort from irresponsible parties and it is clearly a plan to discredit Umno Barisan Nasional during this GE15 season.
"Malaysians who received this fake document, please do not be influenced by it,” he wrote on his Facebook account tonight.
Earlier today, a viral post was seen on social media depicting an SD signed by Shamsul.
The SD promised among others to support Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as the prime minister after GE15 concluded.
Other "promises” depicted on the SD were to give major Cabinet posts and political appointments to Umno MPs, as well as dropping court charges involving top Umno BN leaders.
Umno president and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid had earlier today denied that candidates for the BN coalition in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15) had to sign letters to support him to be the prime minister.
