GURUN, Oct 30 — DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the party’s decision to place its candidate for the Jerai parliamentary seat was agreed upon by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council.

He said the move should not have created an issue among component parties as seat negotiations, especially those in Bersatu’s hands, had been completed previously and Amanah agreed to contest in Alor Gajah, while DAP chose Jerai.

"Negotiations are done in the spirit of the coalition, so it was conducted well and harmoniously, with any differences we have dealt with internally,” he told reporters after officiating the Jerai parliamentary election operations centre in Guar Chempedak here today.

PH announced yesterday that Kedah DAP vice-chairman Zulhazmi Shariff would contest in Jerai, the only parliamentary seat contested by DAP in the state.

Kedah Amanah chairman Datuk Phalrolrazi Mohd Zawawi was sacked from the party today for breaching the party’s constitution, disobeying the party’s decisions and going against the interests of the party.

His sacking is believed to be linked to the allocation of Jerai, which is a Malay-majority seat, to DAP.

Meanwhile, Loke said DAP would field candidates in several other Malay-majority seats in an effort to gain support from Malays.

"Not only in Jerai, but also in Selangor, along with several other seats that I will announce in Johor tonight,” he added. — Bernama
