PENGERANG, Oct 27 — A fire and an explosion involving a connecting pipe occurred at the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) near here today.
Sebana Cove Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Superintendent Masri Ibrahim said fire crew were immediately despatched to the scene after a distress call was received at 4.12pm.
"A total of seven firemen with three fire engines were deployed to the scene to control the situation as the fire involved the connecting pipeline for the N-OSBL project.
"The initial fire was controlled earlier by the Central Emergency and Fire Services Response (CEFS) personnel before the firemen arrived at the location, after which the flames were brought under control at 4.23 pm,” said Masri in a statement today.
Meanwhile, PIC in a statement said that the incident occurred at 3.40pm and the CEFS team acted quickly to put out the fire before it spread.
According to the PIC, the CEFS team was able to completely extinguish the blaze at 4.50pm.
"There were no casualties, and the incident did not affect or pose a threat to the surrounding community,” read the statement.
