PUTRAJAYA, Oct 27 — Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today announced the coalition’s first eight candidates for the 15th general election, including himself and his son.
Dr Mahathir said he will defend his Langkawi seat while his son, Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, will be fielded again in Jerlun.
Similarly, Pejuang secretary-general Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah will defend his Kubang Pasu seat.
All three seats are in Kedah and were won in 2018 on PKR’s ticket when the three incumbents had been with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
Dr Mahathir also announced two current Selangor assemblyman, Harumaini Omar of Batang Kali and Mohd Shaid Rosli of Jeram, will contest at Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor federal seats, respectively.
Pejuang women’s wing chief, Datin Paduka Che Asmah Ibrahim, will be fielded in Sepang while Pejuang Perak chief Mior Nor Haidir Suhaimi will contest in Tapah.
Pejuang Federal Territories chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan will contest in Titiwangsa, which is set to be a hot seat in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr Mahathir said GTA will use the Pejuang logo for GE15 in at least 100 seats, as the coalition was still unregistered.
He said this could go up to 120 seats, depending on developments in Johor and Sabah.
"We have identified the areas we will contest in and the numbers would be over 100.
"However, we have yet to conclude seats in Johor and Sabah. When we could finalise it, the number of seats we will be contesting would be over 120,” he told reporters at Pejuang headquarters here today.
